    Today’s joy:

Just getting quiet in the evening and breathing and writing.

    A past joy:

A couple of years ago when I went out to Liberty Reservoir for the first time.  I enjoyed taking pictures out there, but I left wishing I’d had a boat.

    Today’s joy:

    Ice cream.

    A past joy:

Hitting a baseball.  I was watching some guys hit baseball with aluminum bats.  I miss that “clang” sound of a baseball coming off of an aluminum bat.  I should watch more college ball.

  • Hanging Out Inside – 17 April 2021

    Today’s Inspiration:

Took place last night.  Spent some time in a Clubhouse room with other Black writers.  I didn’t say a thing, but it was good to be with other Black writers and hear what they had to say and learn a few things.  I still feel full inside.

    Today’s joy:

Haven’t had Giant’s rotisserie chicken salad in a long time, but I got a pound of it.  That’s lunch on Monday.

    A past joy:

Crossing Conowingo Dam for the first time.  One of the more interesting drives I’ve ever had that day.

  • A Different Twinight-Twilight – 16 April 2021

    Today’s inspiration:

The sky at twilight.  Didn’t feel like spring, but I know spring’s coming.  It felt good.

    Today’s joy:

Getting food and eating outside at the usual location.  Eating under the stars.  I’m glad this is a weekly thing.

    A past joy:

Going to the pizza shop down in Fells Point.  At night, down by the water.  And it has that old-style pizza shop/sub shop feel to it that I still love.

  • Up and Over – 15 April 2021

    Today’s inspiration:

    Being here.

    Today’s joy:

I slept really well.  That was a joy.  Until I had to get up, obviously.

    A past joy:

Driving late at night on I-70 leaving West Virginia and entering Ohio.  Tunnel and bridges.  Fun for a roadfan.

    Enjoyed this evening’s Mets/Phillies game. David Peterson had a really good outing. 6IP, 10K’s, 1ER, 0BB.

    A past joy:

Playwrights group meetings at Panera Bread. Those were really fun. Not a thing that could realistically be done again right now, but certainly enjoyable in the “before” days.

  • The Arts of Living – 12 April 2021

    Today’s inspiration:

Had a great conversation in the creativity circle about confidence and belief in one’s self and the work that you’re doing. About not looking outside of yourself for permission, not giving that power to others.

    Today’s joy:

Today is my cousins’ Allan and Raquel’s wedding anniversary. 18 years, 3 beautiful daughters and still going.

    A past joy:

It’s a long story and I’ll have to write a longer version of it one day, but helping out at the audition of a then-local writer and director who had written a movie. I enjoyed sitting with him on that side of the audition table, but one of the actors came in and for her read, she requested for me to participate in her read. The scene was a mother holding her son, so I was her son for her read. Someone else got the role, though, if I remember correctly. The whole thing was completely against protocol and we told her that was probably the only audition she’d ever get in her entire life where she’d be able to do that. I’m not even sure why either the director or I agreed to do this. It was probably late in the day and he already had someone else in mind. There was no reason for it and it was ridiculous, but I did it and it was hilarious. Thankfully, no tape exists of this.

  • Staying Up Writing – 11 April 2021

    Today’s inspiration:

give thanks for nourishing spaces and relationships

And even more thanks for when ones that aren’t, reveal themselves as such, and move out of your life.

    Today’s joy:

I’d been having some discomfort with the pens I’ve been using.  They’re all one kind, but I did find one earlier that felt really good on the pages of my journal.  I don’t know how it is for other writers, but that means a lot to me, since I write a lot of things by hand.

    A past joy:

I watched some old news openings for local Baltimore TV stations earlier.  They reminded me of a past joy: staying up late past my bedtime when I had one.  Even if I was watching the news –and I always would, mostly for the weather and sports– I was up when I wasn’t supposed to be.  That was always fun.

  • The Midpoint and the Finish Line – 10 April 2021

    Today’s Inspiration:

Another good Saturday morning, informal meeting with the creativity circle.

    Today’s joy:

Finished another scene in this play.

    A past joy:

Finishing other plays.  Typing “The End” is very satisfying.  I should begin writing the last scenes first.
